General
Yes — completely free. No subscription, no account required, no watermark on exports, ever. There are no hidden paid tiers.
No installation required. BlankComic runs entirely in your web browser on any device — desktop, tablet, or phone. Just open the website and start creating.
No. BlankComic is a pure front-end app — no server, no database, no tracking. Your projects are saved to your browser's IndexedDB and never uploaded anywhere.
Once the page is loaded in your browser, BlankComic works offline. Your work is saved locally. You will need an internet connection to initially load the page and to access Google Fonts.
Yes. BlankComic has full touch support with a mobile-optimized bottom navigation bar. Pinch to zoom, tap to select, and swipe to pan all work naturally on phones and tablets.
Saving & Projects
Yes. BlankComic autosaves your project to your browser's IndexedDB as you work. You can also save manually as a .blank file to back up or move your project between devices.
Go to File → Save Project to download a .blank file to your device. On the other device, open BlankComic and choose File → Open Project to load it. The .blank format preserves all panels, text, colors, and pages.
Click the + button in the Page Panel on the left side of the editor, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N (Cmd+N on Mac). Pages appear in order and can be reordered by dragging.
BlankComic supports US Comic (6.5×10″), A4, Manga (5.8×8.2″), Square (6×6″), Webtoon vertical scroll strip, and fully custom page dimensions.
Exporting
BlankComic supports PNG (high resolution, up to 300 DPI), PDF (multi-page, print-ready), SVG (vector, infinitely scalable), and .blank project files for reopening and editing later.
Click the Export button in the top toolbar and choose PNG. In the export dialog, set the resolution to 300 DPI before downloading. This is the recommended setting for professional print output.
No. BlankComic exports in sRGB color space, which is standard for screens and accepted by most modern print-on-demand services without conversion. If your printer specifically requires CMYK, you can convert the exported PNG or PDF using Adobe Photoshop or GIMP.
Yes. Choose Export → PDF and all pages in your project are combined into a single PDF file in page order. This is the recommended format for sharing with print services or readers.
Editor Features
Press Ctrl+Z (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Z (macOS) to undo the last action. You can press it repeatedly to step back through your full edit history. See the full shortcuts guide for all hotkeys.
Select the element and press Ctrl+D (Cmd+D on Mac) to duplicate it. The copy appears slightly offset from the original, ready to move into position.
Click any color swatch in the inspector to open the color picker. Enter your character's hex code, then click the + button in the Saved Colors section. The color is now available across all panels and projects on that device. Read the character library guide for the full workflow.
Use jagged or spiky speech bubbles for loud, intense emotions: shouting, screaming, extreme excitement, or sound effects like BANG! or CRASH!. Never use them for calm, quiet dialogue — the spiky shape signals volume and intensity before the reader reads a word. See the bubble styles guide.
A thought cloud bubble has a rounded cloud shape with a trail of small circles instead of a pointed tail. It represents a character's inner thoughts — what they're thinking but not saying aloud. Use it to give readers access to a character's internal state.
